Thought Leadership Content on LinkedIn: Influencing Both Direct and Hidden Decision-Makers

LinkedIn, in partnership with Edelman, released a new report exploring the impact of thought leadership content on buyer decisions, especially among “hidden buyers” – professionals involved in purchase decisions but not the primary experts, such as finance, legal, compliance, and procurement staff.

The data shows that 56% of targeted decision-makers and 55% of hidden decision-makers use thought leadership content as part of their vetting process. Notably, 71% of hidden decision-makers report little or no interaction with sales teams, making them a crucial yet often overlooked audience.

Moreover, 71% of these hidden buyers find thought leadership more effective than traditional marketing or sales materials in demonstrating a vendor’s potential value, while 64% trust it more than product sheets when assessing capabilities. Importantly, 73% say that an organization’s thought leadership gives the best sense of the type and caliber of thinking it delivers to clients.

LinkedIn Expands Analytics Access to Boost Individual Content Strategy

LinkedIn has introduced new Member Post Analytics APIs, enabling third-party social media management platforms to offer deeper insights into individual LinkedIn content performance.

This upgrade allows users to track metrics such as follower insights, post performance, and especially video analytics – a crucial area given that video watch time on LinkedIn video posts generate 1.4 times more engagement than other types.

While Company Pages have had extended data access, this update focuses on individual creators, helping them optimize their personal content strategies with data available on popular platforms like Hootsuite, Buffer, and Sprinklr. Additional metrics, such as profile viewers and followers gained from posts, further empower users to refine their LinkedIn presence.
